Welcome to Classics at the University of Cape
Town. This section of the School of Languages and Literatures is home to a wide range of courses in ancient cultural studies
and language.
Greek and Latin language classes begin with an
intensive first year course for those who have never studied the language before.
Students who have already matriculated in Greek or Latin will begin at second
year level.
The Classical Culture courses, dealing with Mediterranean, especially Greek
and Roman, History, Culture, Mythology and Literature, and North Africa, require
no knowledge of Greek or Latin. Although the Culture Courses are mostly centered
on the Mediterranean there are courses dealing with North Africa.
